Call for Proposal Winners

After a difficult selection process, where many interesting abstracts coming from all over the world have been evaluated, we are delighted to present you the Junior Professionals’ Call for Proposals winners of the 3rd European Bronchiectasis Workshop.

Hayoung Choi

Affiliation: University of Dundee

Hayoung Choi is a pulmonologist and an Assistant Professor at Hallym University College of Medicine, Republic of Korea. He is currently working as a visiting researcher at the University of Dundee, United Kingdom. His main scientific interests are non-cystic fibrosis bronchiectasis, mycobacterial diseases and respiratory infections. Dr Choi is an active member of the Korean  registry of bronchiectasis (KMBARC) and has authored over 90 papers on bronchiectasis and respiratory infections.

Freddy Frost

Affiliation: University of Liverpool

Freddy is an NIHR Academic Clinical Lecturer with clinical and research interest in chronic infectious lung disease with a focus on cystic fibrosis and bronchiectasis. His research interests include lung microbiome analysis, registry-based outcome analysis and multimorbidity of chronic lung disease with a focus on cardiovascular and metabolic disease.

Alberto Gaviraghi

Affiliation: University of Turin

Alberto Gaviraghi is actually a resident doctor in Infectious and Tropical Diseases at the University of Turin (Italy), he achieved the DTM&H at the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine.

His reserch interests include difficul to treat bacterial and fungal infections, NTM and MTB.

Beatriz Herrero – Cortina

Affiliation: Hospital Clínico Universitario Lozano Blesa / Universidad San Jorge

Respiratory physiotherapist with passion for airway clearance management in people with bronchiectasis. Her line of research focuses on how to facilitate the implementation of airway clearance techniques as a routine treatment, how to promote long-term adherence and identify the most suitable outcomes to assess the benefits of these techniques in the daily life of these people.

Shimon Izhakian

Affiliation: Pulmonary Institute of Rabin Medical Center/ Tel Aviv University

Dr Izhakian is a senior pulmonologist at the pulmonary institute of Rabin Medical Center, Israel. He completed his M.D degree and PhD degree at Semmelweis University, Hungary. Dr Izhakian completed his specialization in pulmonary medicine and Internal Medicine both with honor in Israel. He has authored over 40 papers on bronchiectasis and lung diseases. He has a special Interest in pulmonary infections with non-tuberculous mycobacteria and therapy of muti drug resistance bacteria.

Mattia Nigro

Affiliation: Istituto Clinico Humanitas – Humanitas University

Dr. Mattia Nigro is an Internal Medicine resident at Humanitas University, Milan (Italy), and a research fellow in respiratory medicine at University of Dundee, Dundee (UK). His research interests include bronchiectasis, respiratory infections and airway inflammation.”

Santi Nolasco

Affiliation: University of Catania

Santi Nolasco is a pulmonologist and PhD student at the University of Catania. He was awarded as “Rising Star” of the 2nd European NTM & Bronchiectasis Workshop. His research interests include airway immunopathology, eosinophilic lung diseases, bronchiectasis and respiratory support.

Cui-xia Pan

Affiliation: Guangzhou Medical University

Cui-xia Pan is currently working toward the Ph.D. degree in Respirology with the State Key Laboratory of Respiratory Diseases, Guangzhou Medical University, Guangzhou, China. Her areas of research include airway pathogens and mucociliary clearance system in bronchiectasis.

Roberta Pancani

Affiliation: Pneumology unit, cardio-thoracic department, University hospital of Pisa

My name is Roberta Pancani and I have been a respiratory disease specialist from 12 years. I am particularly interested in pulmonary vascular, infectious and emergency-urgent care, bronchiectasis, respiratory failure and heart-lung interactions.

I have a Ph.D. in Clinical Pathophysiology and Drug Sciences, and I am passionate about clinical research.

Federica Viola Piedepalumbo

Affiliation: University of Milan

Federica Viola Piedepalumbo, MD, pneumology resident at respiratory unit and Cystic Fibrosis Adult Center, Fondazione IRCCS Ca’ Granda Ospedale Maggiore Policlinico, Milan, Italy. I ‘m currently working at Villa Marelli Institute, TB Reference Center. My research interests are bronchiectasis, mycobacterial diseases and respiratory infections.

Animesh Ray

Affiliation: AIIMS, New Delhi

Dr Animesh Ray (MD DNB DM MRCP EDIC EDARM FSM) is working as an Associate Professor working in the department of Medicine at AIIMS, New Delhi since 2016.

He looks after the Chest Diseases Clinic, Bronchoscopy services, Medical ICU and Sleep Lab services under the department of Medicine at AIIMS, New Delhi.

His primary field of research is respiratory infections with special interest in respiratory mycological infections. He has ~220 publications in peer-reviewed journals focusing on the various aspects of pulmonology, critical care and sleep medicine.
